Biography

Marta Klimczak studies graphic arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In 2023 she completed the Academy of Photography in Warsaw, and in 2024 she completed postgraduate studies in Painting and Drawing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź.

Artist Statement

My painting practice analyses the tension between trauma and transgression, dream and nightmare, examining how the collective unconscious surfaces in moments we barely notice. I am interested in the instant before language: when experience already has colour, rhythm and taste, but not yet a name.

The central figure in my work is a girl, suspended between exploitation and solitude, spirituality and productivity, lingering in oneiric disbelief.

I treat making as a transformation of energy, and as an invitation to project one's own feelings, memories and meanings onto my paintings — to treat them as mirrors in which buried, repressed, or long-silenced emotions can be reflected. The subjects I take up begin in personal experience and in observing the world around me.
